Belvedere on Klausberg

Upon completion of the New Palace's construction in 1769, Frederick the Great had built the Belvedere on Klausberg for the purpose of embellishing the surrounding area of his palace. The Belvedere´s construction constituted the King´s last architectural undertaking in Sanssouci. As the first Belvedere in Potsdam, its construction accounted for the tradition of establishing architecturally mastered viewpoints in the royal capital residence. "Belvedere" translates into "beautiful view" and the top of the hill affords a magnificent view, overlooking Sanssouci Park and the hilly, lake-dotted landscape including the city of Potsdam.
