Brandenburg Gate- In the heart of the town
The seven year’s war was won in 1770. A triumphal arch was to
express the joy over this: the Brandenburg Gate was erected in the
centre of Potsdam and is today the crowning start of the axis from
Luisenplatz (a square in close proximity to Sanssouci Park) to
Brandenburger Straße, Potsdam’s pedestrian precinct and up to St.
Peter’s and St. Paul’s Church. The baroque houses of Brandenburger
Straße date back to the 18th century. Quite a lot has been done in the
side streets in recent years. Most of the houses have been newly
renovated and invite you to go for a stroll.
