How to get to Potsdam

The state capital Potsdam in the heart of Brandenburg is easy to reach by car as well as by train from all directions. The location within the Berlin motorway ring connects Potsdam with all major roads leading to Berlin. From Berlin, where all long-distance trains stop, S-Bahn and regional trains take you quickly to Potsdam. Due to the proximity of the airport Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) you can also reach Potsdam comfortably by plane. Trams, buses and ferries run day and night.

 

Arriving by public transport or train

Potsdam can be easily reached from all directions by public transport. Trains, suburban trains and buses ensure this. The S7 and several regional trains run from Berlin to Potsdam.

Potsdam is connected to the intercity and regional transport network of Deutsche Bahn. Long-distance trains stop at Berlin Main Station, from where you can take the S-Bahn to Potsdam Main Station in aprrox. 45 minutes. Regional express trains from Magdeburg or Brandenburg/Havel are much faster.


Arriving by plane from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

The regional train (RB 22) connects Berlin Brandenburg Airport BER, Terminal 1–2 with Potsdam every hour.

Line RB22 (every 60 min.): Königs Wusterhausen BER T1 / 2 Ludwigsfelde, Struveshof Saarmund Potsdam Golm Potsdam Sanssouci Potsdam Charlottenhof Potsdam Main Station Potsdam Griebnitzsee Wannsee – Zoological Garden Berlin main station Friedrichstr.

The Anger bus line BER2 runs 15 times a day between the airport and Potsdam Main Station at different times to the RB22 trains. The buses are on the way for almost an hour. At the airport, both the stops at Terminal 5 and Terminal 1–2 are served. The VBB tariff plus a comfort surcharge also applies on this line. Operating period from approx. 4:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Line BER2 (every 60 min.): Potsdam Main Station – Stansdorf Teltow – BER T5 BER T1 / 2 (express line, subject to a surcharge)


Arriving by car

North If you are coming from the north via the A24, you should change to the Berliner Ring (A10) in the direction of Potsdam at the "Havelland" motorway junction, then leave the A10 at the "Potsdam Nord" junction and take the B273 federal road directly into Potsdam city centre.

West If you are coming from the west on the A2, change at the "Werder" junction to the A10 (Berliner Ring) in the direction of Frankfurt/Oder. Leave the motorway at junction 17 "Michendorf" and follow the B2 into Potsdam city centre.

South  If you are coming from the south via the A9, you can change to the Berliner Ring (A10) at the "Potsdam" motorway junction. Leave the motorway at junction 17 "Michendorf" and take the B2 to Potsdam city centre.

East If you are coming from the east on the A13 to Potsdam, change at the "Schönefeld" junction to the A10 (Berliner Ring) in the direction of Potsdam or Hanover, then leave the motorway at junction 17 "Michendorf" and take the B2 to Potsdam.

From Berlin it is best to take the A115 to Potsdam. Either leave the motorway at the "Babelsberg" exit and drive along Nuthestraße in the direction of Potsdam Zentrum. Or you can leave the A115 at "Berlin-Wannsee" and take the B1 over the Glienicker Bridge directly to Potsdam.
