The new building of Hans Otto Theater, opened at Schiffbauergasse in 2006, already appears at a distance. The striking construction with its shell-like, overhanging roofs was designed by the Cologne architect and Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Gottfried Böhm.
Beside the theatre with 485 seats the ensemble performs at three stages: the nearby “Reithalle” with 162 seats, the small “Reihalle Box” as well as the open air summer stage on the banks of Lake Tiefer See.
Since the 2018/19 season Bettina Jahnke directs the Hans-Otto-Theater and its 25-actor ensemble. The stage productions of the house bear the hallmarks of its leading artistic director as well as of other stage directors with multifaceted experience and young directing talents. They perform with political sharpness, with impressive sceneries and with the interest in cooperative work within the ensemble.
