Art on the River – walk along the River Havel
Like the Havel River, Potsdam's diverse art scene runs like a ribbon through the city. It is impossible to imagine Potsdam without art and culture. Just like the Havel, which embraces Potsdam and thus makes it an island. The Museum Barberini, the Potsdam Museum, the Kunstraum Potsdam and the Museum FLUXUS+ in Schiffbauergasse are among the most important places to enjoy art. But a stroll through the small galleries will also warm the hearts of art lovers.
The "Walk of Modern Art" complements the museum scene as an open-air gallery, making art on the river accessible to all. In the open-air gallery along the banks of the Havel River, artists will deal with the theme of the path, water and landscape in their immediate surroundings. Nine very different artistic objects can be seen.
The route leads from the Old Market with the Museum Barberini and the Potsdam Museum along the banks of the Old Ride, past the Friendship Island, to the area of the Schiffbauergasse. Here you can see more sculptures, such as the imposing "Warrior" by Armando, but also the Kunstraum Potsdam and the Museum FLUXUS+ are located. If your feet are tired, but you're hungry for more, take the "Kulturtramlinie 93" from the Schiffbauergasse adventure quarter to Glienicker Brücke. Directly on the shore is the Villa Schöningen, which exhibits national and international art and displays other art in its inviting garden. In addition, the museum café provides a small, well-deserved art break. For the way back, we recommend taking the water cab: at the foot of the Glienicke Bridge, the trip takes you back downtown to Potsdam's harbor.
